Michael Whelan double-dipping. First he sells his painting to Baen Books, who put it on the cover of one of the strongest sci-fi collections of the ‘80’s. Then three years later, he sells the same painting to Sepultura, who put it on their seminal US debut
He pulled the same stunt with HP Lovecraft and Obituary, repurposing a painting which had served as the cover to Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre for the Obituary album Cause of Death.
Not saying there’s anything WRONG with that, in fact it’s kind of interesting, but yeah: double-dipping.
