So yeah, Nevermind, 20 years. Good album, but I don’t know if it changed everything, as suicidewatch was just saying.
It was at the cusp, that’s for sure, caused the cusp, I guess, but what the fuck? It ushered in a new fad. What was the first hair metal album? Who can say whether Nevermind’s more important than the first Hanoi Rocks album? Who can know?
If Nevermind changed everything, everything gets changed quite a bit, like by albums including the following:
1. Elvis Presley
2. Meet The Beatles
3. Revolver
4. Highway 61 Revisited
5. Fresh Cream
6. Tommy
7. Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East
8. Led Zeppelin IV
9. Emerson Lake and Palmer
And that only gets us through 1971. Nevermind was an excellent, popular album, but it was hardly the first one you could say that about. It killed hair metal, sure. But Highway 61 killed Greenwich Village folk and Revolver killed Merseybeat and Never Mind the Bollocks killed prog. So what?
I don’t think you should waste time wondering who changed what. Just worry about whether the record contains good music, and Nevermind certainly does.
